A Lifestyle Blog With An African Twist

Its How You Look At It

Hello and welcome to The Cooking Wardrobe.

A few years back I was talking or should I say whinging to a friend about a few things that were driving me nuts.  She listened attentively for a while and quietly said to me, look,  from what I understand, you can't change these things so why not change how you look at them instead?  That makes absolute sense, right?

For example, we all talk about the habits we don't like much about our partners and would love them to change,  till we have kids who behave exactly like them, then that habit is no longer an issue because we so love that child and we begin to accept the whole package.  How about when we are at work and feel as if we are doing a lot while others are having fun?  Unfair, isn't it?  Well, if we were to change how we look at it, it would be something like this "I am getting paid for this job and I will not look at what others are doing."  As hubby always says to me, fault is everywhere and if I want to find something to be angry about its easy, but I don't see it because I am not looking.

Today's outfit I wore to the shops over the weekend.  Let me know what you think in the comments box.  Thank you for reading and have a lovely week!!!

  17. You look spectacular! You can't know how envious I am sometimes of your tall, exotic-to-me elgance, and how well you wear such beautiful colors. Again, you are such a beauty.
Another subject ... I'm learning a new camera (no blog this week from me because of it ... ) and hope you'll tell me what camera formats your photographer uses. Would you mind telling me if your glowy-filter is done in-camera before downloading or after with a photo editor? (Or perhaps the glow is natural-all-your-own-from deep-within your own pretty self?) Digital camera or SLR? Focal length on lens? I'd appreciate the info ... I'm struggling a bit!

    1. Hi Jan, thank you so much for always leaving such sweet comments that make me blush so hard you would not believe it. Our camera is a Sony Alpha SLT-A58 DSLR Camera with 18-55mm Lens Kit. Hubby sets the focus to AF(Automatic Autofocus Mode) most of the time, and only does manual with the close-up photos. I do all my editing with picmonkey. I auto adjust, then crop, then soften. Depending on the lighting I set the softness anywhere between 15 and 20% and fade at 50%.Hope this helps Jan and looking forward to your next fantastic post. xo

    2. Thank you! Nice of you to share! I'm having to move my "spot" for on-the-way-out-the-door snaps that we make on Sundays. I moved up to a Canon EOS M mirrorless system, and my only current lens is the same, an 18-55mm. Lovely lens, but I now need more distance between me and the camera to eliminate the width distortion ( under no circumstance do I need more width. Anywhere.) That forces me to move back so far I'd fall off the 3" porch drop. So I'm dinking around with places to shoot ... uncomfortable, difficult, but undoubtedly good for me.
Your information helps a lot! Good old PicMonkey ... I love your result! There's a an otherworldly quality about your photos that I find wonderful.
Woo hooo .... I found out I can "soften" in-camera, after the shot editing. How fun is this?
I'm seriously going to use it, 'cause these better quality image really show off all my worst flaws! Not sure I want all this reality.
So kind of you, Elsie. I'll look better because of your help!

  18. Looking terribly good. Love the lacy top. White is so nice against your beautiful ebony skin. And the folding of the scarf is pure art. Gorgeous colours.

  25. This is absolutely true. I've learned that lesson over the years, nowadays I am much more patient and not as easily riled up by random things.

Your top is beautiful, love the crisp white, the crotchet details and the cut. The pattern of your headscarf is gorgeous as well.
